Over 40 Nationalities. Over 20 Million Shillings. One Extraordinary Day.
Baybridge and Reader Rabbits raise record funds for Tumaini La Maisha – the charity providing life-saving cancer treatment to children at Muhimbili Hospital.
Over 40 nationalities were represented at this year’s International Day as students, parents, and staff filled the school grounds with the sounds, flavours, and colours of cultures from every corner of the world.
Baybridge was the first school to partner with Tumaini La Maisha, the charity that funds treatment for children with leukaemia and terminal cancer at Muhimbili National Hospital. That partnership has continued every year since, and this year’s event raised over 20 million Tanzanian shillings for their work.
Every student chose to represent a continent and nationality other than their own – stepping into someone else’s culture and celebrating it with pride. Parents brought it to life, coming together to choreograph dances, cook traditional dishes, and prepare drinks from their chosen countries.
The African continent group – the largest by number – performed a dance that brought the crowd to its feet. The Asian group, with India at its heart and the second largest continent, answered with a beautiful performance of their own. Sugar cane was pressed and shared. Food from every continent was laid out across the grounds. Group after group took the stage, and each one was met with the kind of noise that only a genuinely invested community can produce.
“Over 40 nationalities. One school. One cause.”
When the performances ended, the giving continued. A charity raffle offered prizes ranging from MMA vouchers and restaurant experiences to flights and hotel stays in Zanzibar. All food prepared by families was sold, with over 5 million shillings raised on the day alone – on top of the funds already pledged through the wider campaign.
The total: over 20 million shillings for children who need it most.
International Day is one of the highlights of the Baybridge calendar – a day that brings the entire community together around culture, generosity, and a shared commitment to something bigger than ourselves. Thank you to every family that cooked, danced, donated, and showed up. The children supported by Tumaini La Maisha are better off because of it.
